Spring is the season the shop was built for. Here is what to do between the last ski day and the first hot one.
Ride The Sun Road Without Cars
From April into June, Going-to-the-Sun Road above the vehicle closure is open to bikes and closed to cars while the plows work. You ride past Avalanche Creek, through the West Tunnel and up toward the Loop with nobody but other riders and walkers. The park moves the closure point weekly, closes the road to riders Monday through Thursday during plowing, and never lets anyone pass a closure. Read Glacier in May, Glacier in June and the Sun Road biking guide, and check our status page for the park’s current alert.
The River Path And The Lake
Town wakes up in May. The Whitefish River Trail connects the shop to downtown and City Beach, and East Lakeshore Drive is quiet before the summer traffic. The state park’s campground and water reopen in late April or early May. See Whitefish Lake and Where to Ride.
The Last Ski Days
Check skiwhitefish.com for Whitefish Mountain Resort’s closing day. A SNO-GO ski bike on soft spring snow is the easiest day on the hill all year. Read how to ride a ski bike.
Pack For Both Seasons
The park says rainy, cool days are common in spring, even in June, and snow can fall at any time at elevation. A spring day here can start at freezing and end in shirtsleeves. Bring a shell, gloves and a warm layer, and leave room to shed them.
Book Early
May and June weekends are the most requested dates of our year. Rent an e-bike for Glacier or in Whitefish: reserve online, pay at pickup, cancel anytime.
